Children’s ID Bracelets
Children’s jewellery is usually a form of adornment. It is most often given as a gift. Baby rings, bracelets or jewellery as religious symbols all come to mind when we think about jewellery for kids. While these are all wonderful there are a few pieces of children’s jewellery that are more than just “a pretty face”, but are in fact essential.
Identification or medical information jewellery is not a new idea. We all remember the I.D. bracelets we had as children. They were mostly a heavy chain with a flat plate in the middle and you had your name or a message engraved onto the plate. Today I.D. bracelets come in many different materials. We all know them made of gold, silver or other metals, but today you can find them in leather, rubber or many other materials. You can also add many different charms or pictures (if made out of rubber) onto the bracelets. I have always liked I.D. bracelets but I think that in today’s world you need to be very careful about putting your child’s name onto anything including jewellery. While that may be fine for older kids, it might not be wise for younger children.
Recently I saw a child with an I.D. bracelet on. The front plate was enameled with flowers and engraved with the words “turn me over”. She was only about three years old. I asked her mother about it and she said she had it engraved like that in case her child ever got lost. When you turn the bracelet over it reveals a phone number. She had her daughter wearing it since she was 2 years old. Her mother did not want to put her child’s name on it for safety reasons, but should her child ever get lost and someone found her they could call the number and the mother could come to get her. What a great idea! You could put this message on many different types of children’s jewellery. It could be a charm on a child’s charm bracelet or on a chain, for a boy it could even be put on I.D. tags that are so popular today. It does not really matter what you put it on, the only thing that matter’s is that it is visible to anyone who finds the child.
Medical alert jewellery is absolutely essential for a child with a medical condition or allergy. You can purchase the standard types of this kind of jewellery but now you can even find medical children’s jewellery in really cool fashions. The most prevalent places to wear this type of jewellery are around the neck or on a wrist. A child’s medical information can be on a charm that is not only cute to the child but obvious to any person who needs the information. It is important that children’s bracelets or necklaces with medical information not be mixed in with other jewellery on the same wrist or the neck. Consider finding something cool in medical jewellery that will not only give the medical alert information but also please your child.
