During the holidays I found one quiet day alone and invited my granddaughter for the day. I had given her a children’s jewellery box and a child’s bracelet for Christmas and I wanted to spend the day putting all of her baby jewellery in it.
We had a wonderful time. First we took all of her jewellery, her baby rings, children’s necklaces and pendants and laid them all out on the kitchen table. She has started to get a fair size collection. We put all of her baby rings together then her children’s bracelets and then her chains and pendants.
We opened the children’s jewellery box and I showed her were each piece should go. One by one we cleaned each piece with a soft damp clean cloth. She put each piece into it’s new home.
I then decided that we should go threw my old jewellery and see if there were any pieces that she would like. First she found a few of my children’s charms and we cleaned them and added them to one of her children’s charm bracelets. I told her stories of who gave them to me and of some special times that I wore them.
We put on a pot of strawberry tea and set out a plate of cookies. There were several other pieces that she would ask me to tell her about. While we were playing in the children’s jewellery we were creating special memories.
We finished with all of the jewellery and her little children’s jewellery box was more than half full. It was such wonderful afternoon that we decided that we were going to do it every year after the hustle of the holidays.
It fills me with joy that while the children’s jewellery will be safely kept in her little jewellery box, the memories that we created will always be safely kept in our hearts
