Children’s jewellery boxes

What little princess or prince would not love to have their own little treasure box.  Children’s  jewellery boxes come in many different styles and themes to suit both girls and boys.  Threw the years of their childhood children can quickly gain quite a collection of  jewellery and small treasures.

While you will always be able to find the traditional girls ballerina jewellery box, the market for children’s jewellery boxes has expanded greatly.  Not only for the girls but there is a vast array of boxes for boys as well.

You can easily find jewellery boxes to suit your child’s personality and likes.  They are available in many different characters, sport themes and a variety of  different shapes and sizes.  They come in many different materials such as wood, plastic and metal.  You can even find some that can be rolled up and slipped into a drawer.

I think it is a good idea to keep good children’s jewellery seperate from children’s costume or fashion jewellery.  I would recommend that you have two separate jewellery boxes.  One for the good jewellery and one for the fashion jewellery.  You can allow the child to go into the fashion jewellery box when ever they want to.  Only let them go into the good jewellery box when with you.

If your child has a lot of sterling silver jewellery I recommend a jewellery box that has a special lining in it that protects the silver from tarnishing.  You can keep all of their jewellery in this same box.  If you do not have one of these please put the sterling silver pieces into a small seal-able bag before you put it in the box.  This will also help stop tarnishing.  Any jewellery you are putting back into the jewellery box should be wiped with a damp soft cloth.  This will also help with tarnishing.

Never put pearls into a sealed bag.  Pearls need to breathe ( even if they have a silver clasp).  It is a good idea to keep them in a cloth pouch and then put them into the jewellery box.

By teaching your child how to properly care and store their children’s jewellery you will be helping them to insure that these piece become heirloom pieces.
