Your child is starting to acquire quite a few jewellery pieces and it is important to teach them how to care for them. You want your children’s jewellery to last a life time and that requires the same care that you would give to your own jewellery.

One of the first things that needs to be done is to find the proper storage for it. There are many different styles of children’s jewellery boxes available on the market today both for male or females. You can chose to have their jewellery all in one box or have several different ones. One for just baby jewellery, chains, rings or children’s bracelets and as they grow, one for their good jewellery and one for children’s fashion jewellery.

It is always important to wipe off your jewellery with a soft cloth before you store it away. Keep your child’s silver jewellery either in a special lined jewellery box or wrap the peice in tissue paper to keep it from tarnishing. Never clean your children’s jewellery with any commercial cleaner as it is not safe for them. Only use a soft damp cloth or a little soap and water with a very soft tooth brush. Rinse it off with warm water and make sure that the piece is very dry before storing it.

I you child has any jewellery with pearls on it you must take care. Never keep pearls in an air tight environment, (pearls need to breath). Baby rings, necklaces and children’s bracelets with pearls should be kept together in a separate compartment in your childrens jewellery boxes.

Your children’s jewellery, if well taken care of should last a life time. A few times a year spend time with your child to go threw all of their jewellery. Clean and inspect each piece. Check all of the clasp on all of the necklaces and bracelets. You can use a magnifying glass to check all of the prongs on any of the baby rings and pendants. Make sure all of the stones and pearls are secure. If they are not any reputable jeweller can fix them for you for a very reasonable fee.

So have some fun and make some very special memories with your child, while at the same time teaching them how to care for their little treasures.
