Welcome to Children’sJewellery.net!

Children Love JewelleryI don’t know about your kids, but mine love to sparkle just like their Mom.  Buying jewellery for your children’s birthday or baptismal is something special, and these are pieces that your child will hopefully one day pass down to her children.  My son wore the jewellery – chains and crosses – that I wore for my baptism.  These delicate little pieces of jewellery are so beautiful and are real heirlooms.

My daughther is always playing in my jewellery box, draping herself with my necklaces, bracelets, etc.  For Christmas she got her own little jewellery box and a few choice pieces to put in.  Children’s Bracelet with charms, jewellery like earings and little rings have kept her happily out of my good stuff!  And it is amazing what good care she takes of her little treasures.

We love comments, feel free to leave your feedback.

Easter Jewellery

Posted on 10:54 am

Easter is a wonderful time to give religious or inspirational children’s jewellery as a gift.  The most obvious piece of course is the cross.  You can find many different styles and sizes.  Children’s crosses can be very plain to very elaborate.  Depending on the size of the cross you can have it engraved with a small sentimental message.  Children’s  crosses come in an array of metals silver, gold and many other metals.  You can also purchase them in plastic or  wood but I caution you to be aware of the country they come from.  Any piece made out of anything other than silver or gold coming out of China should be avoided at this time due the cadmium.

There are also many other spiritual children’s jewellery pieces to consider.  Children’s rings, bracelets, earrings are just a few of the other options.  If you are purchasing a piece for a younger child try to get one that can be adjusted to extend the length of time the child can wear the piece.

There are many different places to search for the perfect spiritual children’s jewellery.  Jewellery and department stores many times only offer a small variety.  Try looking on the internet.  Also try religious specialty stores on line for a more tailored product line.

A spiritual piece of children’s jewellery makes a wonderful gift anytime but Easter is especially a good time instead of candy or stuffed toys.  The child will always have the piece and the memory to go along with it.

Claddagh rings

Posted on 11:08 am

The claddagh ring dates back over three hundred years.  It originates from a fishing village called the Claddagh.  The word claddagh comes from an Irish term that means a “flat stony shore”.  The correct spelling is Claddagh however there are other commonly used ways of spelling it.  Cladagh, clladagh and calladagh.

The Claddagh rings distinctive design features are two hands clasping a heart and is usually surmounted by a crown.  The crown can be plain or have jewels put onto it.

The meaning of the claddagh ring gives it it’s significance.  The hands denote friendship.  The heart signifies love and the crown stands for loyalty.  The way the ring is worn also has important significance. Which hand you wear it on as well as the direction the crown is facing has meaning.

Engaged or married person would wear the ring on the left hand with the crown pointing away from their heart.  A person considering love would wear the ring on the right hand with the crown pointing away from their heart.  For a person who is not interested in starting a relationship the rings would be worn on the right hand with the crown pointing towards their heart.

The claddagh ring is worn by children as well.  Irish children or children with an Irish decent often have a claddagh ring in their children’s jewllery collection.  You do not have to be Irish to appreciate the meaning of the claddagh ring.  While it is most commonly used for wedding and friendship rings it is also given from parents or grandparents to their children.  I have even seen them in baby rings.  I think it is a nice tribute to the beginning of a new life.

Children’s jewellery boxes

Posted on 1:23 pm

What little princess or prince would not love to have their own little treasure box.  Children’s  jewellery boxes come in many different styles and themes to suit both girls and boys.  Threw the years of their childhood children can quickly gain quite a collection of  jewellery and small treasures.

While you will always be able to find the traditional girls ballerina jewellery box, the market for children’s jewellery boxes has expanded greatly.  Not only for the girls but there is a vast array of boxes for boys as well.

You can easily find jewellery boxes to suit your child’s personality and likes.  They are available in many different characters, sport themes and a variety of  different shapes and sizes.  They come in many different materials such as wood, plastic and metal.  You can even find some that can be rolled up and slipped into a drawer.

I think it is a good idea to keep good children’s jewellery seperate from children’s costume or fashion jewellery.  I would recommend that you have two separate jewellery boxes.  One for the good jewellery and one for the fashion jewellery.  You can allow the child to go into the fashion jewellery box when ever they want to.  Only let them go into the good jewellery box when with you.

If your child has a lot of sterling silver jewellery I recommend a jewellery box that has a special lining in it that protects the silver from tarnishing.  You can keep all of their jewellery in this same box.  If you do not have one of these please put the sterling silver pieces into a small seal-able bag before you put it in the box.  This will also help stop tarnishing.  Any jewellery you are putting back into the jewellery box should be wiped with a damp soft cloth.  This will also help with tarnishing.

Never put pearls into a sealed bag.  Pearls need to breathe ( even if they have a silver clasp).  It is a good idea to keep them in a cloth pouch and then put them into the jewellery box.

By teaching your child how to properly care and store their children’s jewellery you will be helping them to insure that these piece become heirloom pieces.

Safe children’s jewellery

Posted on 4:55 pm

Many people have been asking me what children’s jewellery is safe.  With the recent news coming out that many children’s jewellery pieces from China have high levels of cadmium in them, people are scared.  They are uncertain which children’s jewellery pieces are safe.

Children’ jewellery made of gold, sterling silver, stainless steel or platinum are all safe for children to wear.  It does not matter if it is a baby ring, children’s bracelet, children’s necklace  children’s earrings or pendant, any piece in the aforementioned metals is safe.

The problem is with inexpensive children’s jewellery coming out of China.  Wal-mart has pulled all of their  children’s jewellery off it’s shelves.  Do not purchase any children’s jewellery from any dollar type stores as much of thier jewellery comes from China.  I would recommend that for the time being you do not buy any inexpensive children’s jewellery at all.

You also need to be aware that the cadmium can be in many other children’s accessories such as children’s hair pins, shoe and backpack charms.  Any type of inexpensive medal especially coming from China should be avoided until such time as the government has put a stop to cadmium being used in jewellery.

If you are looking for inexpensive children’s jewellery you can find it in metals such as sterling silver, stainless steel ( is non allergenic ), crystal or even wood or bamboo.

Be aware also that children’s jewellery making kits can also have cadmium in it.  When purchasing these kits look to see what country they come from.  Also you can buy individual segments  to make your own kits, these also can have cadmium in them.  If you are unsure ask the store manager.  If they can not tell you refrain from purchasing it.
